Early season in Saariselkä

Winter is approaching and the preparations in Saariselkä are in full swing! From this article you will find information about the early season conditions in Saariselkä.

Cross-country ski

There is no stored snow in Saariselkä which means that the season starts when the weather allows it.

The snow making between Saariselkä and Laanila starts when the weather gets cold enough. We need around -5C for several consecutive days to be able to start the snow making.

On natural snow the first trails will be prepared on the illuminated trails between Saariselkä - Kiilopää - Kakslauttanen, and on Kuutamolatu and prospector trail. We need around 15cm of natural snow to be able to start trail grooming.

Winter trails (cycling, walking)

We will start the winter trail grooming when there is enough of natural snow on the ground in late November or early December. The terrain of the winter trails is more uneven compared to cross-country ski trails and therefore we need more snow before we can start the maintenance.

Snowmobile tracks

We will start the maintenance season of the snowmobile tracks in late November when there is enough of natural snow on the tracks.
